If You Dont Know Jack, Youre a Jackwagon If You Donââ¬â¢t Know Jack, Youââ¬â¢re a Jackwagon If You Donââ¬â¢t Know Jack, Youââ¬â¢re a Jackwagon By Mark Nichol A recent news article prompted me to research the use of jack as a catch-all term: Apparently, a pair of pot smugglers ignored the sensible admonition ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t get high on your own supplyâ⬠and, in a state of THC-fueled paranoia, called 911 to complain that while transporting their precious cargo, they were being harassed by undercover police officers in nearby vehicles. The caller referred to the alleged persecutors- probably just fellow motorists perturbed by the unsteady hand of the man at the wheel- as ââ¬Å"jackwagons.â⬠All usages of jack in English, it turns out, derive from the proper name Jack, a variant of the common names John (from English, but ultimately derived from the Hebrew name Yochanan, also the source of the name Jonathan) and Jacques (the latter of which, from France, is the origin of the word jacket). The ubiquity of these names in medieval England resulted in its use as a general term of address for the common man. (In Middle English, it was spelled various ways with an e at the end and pronounced ââ¬Å"Jackie,â⬠hence the diminutive form of the nickname.) The Scots equivalent, Jock, was the origin of the word jockey, used to describe someone who rides or drives a horse in a race or, by extension, operates a vehicle or a tool (as in ââ¬Å"disk jockey,â⬠the origin of the entertainment term DJ, also spelled deejay). To jockey, on the analogy of a jockeyââ¬â¢s riding strategy, is to maneuver or negotiate for advantage. From the usage of Jack as a generic name stems such terms as lumberjack for a worker who cuts trees down and steeplejack for someone specializing in working on tall structures, jack-of-all-trades, referring to a person who is skilled at multiple types of jobs or tasks, and jack-oââ¬â¢-lantern (ââ¬Å"jack-of-the-lantern,â⬠originally synonymous with will-oââ¬â¢-the-wisp) and jack-in-the-box, the name for a toy and a carved pumpkin lit from within respectively, as well as ââ¬Å"Jack Frostâ⬠as a personification of wintry cold and ââ¬Å"Jack the Ripperâ⬠as a nickname for a notorious serial killer in Victorian London. (Jack-in-the-box was originally slang for a con man who switched out a full box for an empty one, and it acquired numerous other senses, too.) The name also became associated with sailors in the designation ââ¬Å"Jack Tar,â⬠thanks to the fact that men of the sea generally had a scent of tar about them. Fictional characters given the Everyman appellation in tales and nursery rhymes include the heroes in ââ¬Å"Jack and the Beanstalkâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Jack the Giant Killerâ⬠and personages in ââ¬Å"Jack Spratâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Jack and Jill.â⬠Jack was also applied to the lowest-ranking face cards in a deck of playing cards (which is the origin of jackpot, meaning ââ¬Å"a prize,â⬠and hence jack, a slang term for money) and to various small objects, including flags (as in ââ¬Å"Union Jackâ⬠) and the game of jacks and its playing pieces. The sense of ââ¬Å"smallâ⬠is also responsible for the retort ââ¬Å"You donââ¬â¢t know jack shitâ⬠(or just ââ¬Å"jackâ⬠). It also appears in the name of animals and plants, including the jackass, or male donkey, the jackrabbit (a hare named for its long ears, suggestive of a donkeyââ¬â¢s), and the jackdaw, a relative of the crow, plus the jack oak and jack pine trees, as well as the jack-in-the-pulpit plant. Jackanapes, from the nickname given to an upstart English nobleman, derives from ââ¬Å"Jack of Naples,â⬠a contemporary slang term for a monkey that came to refer to an impudent person. The cheese variety Monterey Jack was named after its first commercial producer, David Jack, who lived near Monterey, California. The noun jack, referring to various mechanisms, including a device for hoisting or raising a heavy object, and the verb form jack and the verb phrase ââ¬Å"jack upâ⬠derive from the fact that the machines did the work of a common laborer. Jackhammer and jackknife, as well as the term bootjack, for a device used for removing boots, stem from this usage as well. (However, jackboot, referring both to a boot worn by cavalry soldiers and a later marching boot worn by German and Soviet military personnel- hence the wordââ¬â¢s subsequent association with totalitarian oppression, although jackboots have been worn by soldiers of democratic nations as well- is unrelated: The cavalry jackboot was originally fortified with chain mail, and an Old French word for that material is jaque.) So, how did we get to the insult jackwagon, popularized in a television commercial featuring actor and former drill sergeant R. Lee Ermey? As a less offensive alternative to jackass as a derogatory label, it may derive from a nickname for the chuck wagon (chuck comes from a slang word for food), a vehicle carrying cooking implements and supplies for a cattle drive or a wagon train, or for any of one of several other types of wagons that might bring up the rear of a procession of other vehicles. The seemingly lowly status of the trailing wagon, literally left in the dust of what came before it, presumably came to be associated with a person of low character or intelligence. Iran's Vulnerability Assessment - Essay Example The battle of control is weakening Iranââ¬â¢s government and there is no clue if this destabilization will lessen down. Iran is also facing ethnic threats as an internal destabilizing problem. There is religious dictatorship in the country which is the death of democracy. The so-called theocratic leaders and divine officials have been governing the country for many years. Theocracy is the rule. So, free thought and expression is restricted. The official religion is Islam but Shiaââ¬â¢s are given preference which means that Iran grades its citizens as first class or second class. We do not see any non-Persian Iranian in political power. Non-Farsi nationalities cannot use their language or culture within the country, for example in education. There also exists sexual apartheid in Iran which oppresses womenââ¬â¢s rights. ââ¬Å"As far as the issue of religion, frankly the issue for Iran is not any religion or ideology, not even Shia religionâ⬠, writes Gandhi. Non-Muslims or minorities who do not adhere to the official religion face many threats like kidnappings and killings. Freedom of religion does not prevail which leads to persecution of the non-Muslims. The strictness in the adoption of religion by radical Muslims has created a rift between the citizens and the religion. Since, as previously stated, the religion prefers the Shiaââ¬â¢s, this leads to the creation of sects and groups which further weakens the countryââ¬â¢s stability. According to Radio Zamaneh, ââ¬Å"a group of 110 activists in Iran has issued a statement condemning the military threats against their countryâ⬠. Perceived military threats have continued to pose dangers to the countryââ¬â¢s integrity for years. The undemocratic leaders have been using military interventions to use war to achieve their objectives of oppressing peopleââ¬â¢s rights and requirements. Ahmadinjead has been telling the world that Iran is not

Learning Environment - Research Paper Example Environment is listed as one of the major contributors to the learning process. It has a very high impact on the knowledge that is inflicted on us. While comparing the environment to student learning, environment means external factors that affect the classroom or the learning process. These include classmates, bullies, timetables, lecturers among others. From an organization's point of view, the learning process comprises both the organization and the staff members. The environment of an organization involves the company mission and vision, core values as well as the overall strategic plans. The company resources and the annual goals and implementation processes constitute the organizational environment (Ormond, 2004). One of the major contributors to the theories of learning is Jean Piaget, who came up with the 'theory of cognitive development'. According to Piaget's theory there are four development stages of a child's development from the inherent impulses to complex activities. The four stages include; Sensorimotor Stage (Age 0-2) - In the sensorimotor stage, the rational compositions are mainly involved with the mastery of material objects. Pre-operational Stage (Age 2-7) - This stage involves the mastery of signs and symbols. Concrete Operational (Age 7-11) - In the concrete stage, children learn mastery of modules, associations and figures and how to rationale. Formal Operational (early teens after 11) - The last stage deals with the mastery of ideas and contemplation. In Piaget's theory the environment contributes since children exposed to different environments tend to master objects, signs and symbols differently, and tend to rationalize things in different means. Therefore according to Piaget the environment serves as a catalyst to learning and overall development. (Ormond, 2004.) In organizations, aspects such as technology also serve as the environment and they promote the extent of learning. Over time many changes have taken place in organizations because technology has been consistently advancing. Just a decade or so ago the postal system and the fax machine were the fastest ways to get things done. In today's environment we use emails and scans for the majority of written correspondences (Edelman, 2006). In the days gone by, in-person conferences were a daily ritual but in our fast pace world of cell phones and conference call the slow means have been replaced and it is now possible for people across the United States to purchase, finance and close deals without ever leaving their homes. Individuals today cannot live without a blackberry and a computer. Individuals and companies have to work daily with all the available advances in Technology. They are constantly in different computer programs to help with daily activities of the office (Frank, 2003). Companies are also using all types of office equipment to actively stay in touch with their clients. Without the new world of cell phones, email, multi line phone systems and faxes it would take weeks to do what is done today in just a matter of hours. Firms rely heavily on the latest advancements in the coffee world to stay

Integrating learning styles Essay Facilitators use different learning styles such as auditory, kinetic, and visual methods to enhance each studentââ¬â¢s ability to grasp material the simplest way possible. Through research, instructors have adapted many instructing methods to tap into each studentââ¬â¢s learning style without alienated other strategies necessary for various learners. Auditory strategies may include speeches, tapes, or auditoria tutorials so the students can complete their work as they listen to the facilitatorââ¬â¢s instructions thoroughly (Felder and Soloman, p.1). Instructors should emphasize the key words during their speeches to trigger the studentââ¬â¢s critical listening skills. The keywords of the speech should be relative to their new material, but it must advise them on how to carry out the motions as well (Family Education, p. 2). As in online tutorials, the student must be able to hear the instructions and place the instructions in action by kinetic learning methods. Kinetic methods can include on-hands learning opportunities such as drawing, playing, or writing. An example of this would be to write out the format of a mathematical equation. The students learn to articulate the mathematical structure of the equation in order to answer the question more thoroughly (Felder and Soloman, p. 2). Instructors can use hands-on applications to break the barrier between the textbooks and the informationââ¬â¢s overall objective. For instance, an electrical engineer must use their knowledge in the field in order to work diligently through their coursework. It is very important to give the students a chance to have a complete understanding of what their class material is about through kinetic methods. Visual instructions show students how to replicate the sequence for a given answer (Family Education, p. 1). For example, a student must know the basics of a mathematical equations in a more, in-depth way to capitalize on the verbal (auditory) and kinetic (working out) aspects of the subject matter. How to Deal With StressMany students go to school full time, and hold a part time job to earn money for school. Most students have about four classes, and each of the teacherââ¬â¢s of these classes gives an average of about an hour of homework each night; that averages out to four hours per night of homework, plus a part time job. School causes a lot of students stress because there are so many things to do, and so little time to do it. Stress is a normal part of everyoneââ¬â¢s life; and is not a disease. It is not necessarily good or bad; however, reactions to stress can be harmful. Lack of time puts the stress on many students, and causes students to often procrastinate because they are constantly trying to meet deadlines and they donââ¬â¢t have the time to work on their assignments. Many students feel their grades are important; they need plenty of time to work on their work so they can do good. I can relate to them because if I get a low grade I get disgusted because I p ut a lot of time and effort in doing that assignment. But I think that a lot of the stress from school is caused, not only by the teachers, but also from the students to do well. Students put too much stress on themselves. A student just has to learn to manage their time well and just do as good as possible. Stress management involves the effort of that student to make emotional and physical changes. The degree of stress and the desire to make the changes will determine the level of change that will take place. If a student wants to change the amount of stress in their life, they have to be willing to work and manage their time properly, even if it means sacrificing hours from a job or a night out with friends to study for a test or write a paper. Many students feel an increase in stress and anxiety when writing a paper, meeting a deadline, or studying for an exam. This can cause twitching, trembling, muscle tension, headaches, sweating, irritability, fatigue, and even dry mouth (An xiety, Stress, and Tension). When talking about stress, there are many things that can influence a student. The five main topics that influence a studentââ¬â¢s well being are attitude, physical well being, physical activity, support systems, and relaxation (World Book on Health, 235). Attitude: The attitude of a student can influence whether a situation or emotion is stressful or not. A student with a negative attitude will ... ...oolwork and go out with their friends. It is important that a student interacts with others because it boosts self-confidence and helps maintain social stability in their lives. Lastly, rule number five when dealing with stress is using relaxation techniques. There are many relaxation techniques such as: listening to music, daydreaming, sleeping, writing poetry and many others. Also a student dealing with stress should take time out of their schedule for personal interests and hobbies. Students need to take time from stressful situations and do what makes them happy and have fun. It is also good to take a mini vacation from time to time. This helps keep the stressful studentââ¬â¢s mind off of things and allow them to retreat somewhere to think and relax. In conclusion, stress can be very harmful and have a lot of effects on a studentââ¬â¢s body. Some stress is good, but a lot of it can be bad. The five ways a student can prevent and deal with stress can be very useful. The student dealing with stress just needs to relax and deal with their problems with ease, instead of making things hard on themselves. Things will fall into place; just have patients and life will be a lot less stressful.

Premise: A new action-thriller game with trained soldiers and an arsenal of advanced, powerful, modern day firepower whom try and take down enemy combatants. The brutal opposition are threatening the world in various settings and scenarios. A story with twists and turns about soldiers fighting; using both ground-war technology and aerial strikes on a battlefield where speed, accuracy, and communication are the major factors in victory. Genre: Call for Action is a first-person shooter (FPS) which the personââ¬â¢s cross hairs are placed in the center of the screen and everything happens around it. Platform: Call for action has four different platforms. It is compatible with Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii. The best platform for this game is PlayStation 3, because of its superior graphics software, easier controlling, and less hardware malfunctions. These reasons have been approved and guaranteed by users. The second best platform for this game is Xbox 360. It can handle the graphic and itââ¬â¢s easy to control, like PlayStation 3. Microsoft Windows and Wii are the other platforms which can be used in order to play Call for Action. Backstory: The story takes place in the year 2011, where several U.S. Sergeants and British SAS members find a nuclear weapon on a ship traveling to Africa. After the evacuations, they find evidence of ties between Germans and Russians. At the same time, the Russians want to distract people in order to achieve their goal. So they hire a local separatist leader, called Ivan, to execute the president of the United States to keep the military away. USMC 1st Force Recon team must find and rescue the president, but during the operation, United States Central Command is notified by Seal Team Six of a German nuclear weapon. Later on British SAS find and interrogate Ivan, he exposes that the German leader supplied the nuclear bomb in order to start World War III. Therefore, A combined operation, by U.S. Sergeants and British SAS members, is taken on to stop German leader. Target Rating Call for Actionââ¬â¢s rating is M which stands for Mature. Content is generally suitable for ages seventeen and up because the content contains intense blood and gore, intense violence, and strong language. Target Market This game is originally for residents of the US, but later it can be available to other countries. The target audience is mostly teens generally above the age of 17. On the other hand, the game is only rated M because of parents not wanting their children playing a game with some blood in it. A game should only be rated M if it has sexual scenes not because of blood. Player Motivation This game has two versions, the fist version is, playing the normal mode which the player goes through the story and tries to finish the game, and the second version is the online version which players will compete with their friends in an online mode. Call for Action has a lot of motivations. First, the game finishing scene is the player needing to find the Germans leader in Africa and kill him. If the player kills him, he/she has the right to destroy the nuclear weapon. Second, in this game, not only you can kill people, but you can also drive a tank or a car. Third, when the player finishes the story, the game will give the player a set of special weapons for the online gaming. UPS There are some unique things in the game and about the game which makes it special. First, in this game players can shoot with their weapons, drive a car, or play as a pilot. (Drive an airplane) Second, it has a very high quality and graphic which gives the real feeling of the game. Third, it uses the PlayStationââ¬â¢s dual shocks, so every time players get hit, it will start shaking. The last reason that makes this game special is that players can check their friendsââ¬â¢ progress and follow them. Therefore, this game helps the players to experience the war situations and teach the necessary information and acts that people need to do during the war. Competitive Analysis There are three other games which could be considered competitors of Call of Action. The first game called Battlefield 3. This game is a first person shooter by a Swedish developer. According to Wikipedia, ââ¬Å"In-game, the European Union and the United States fight China and the Middle Eastern Coalition. It is known that in the gameââ¬â¢s story, the EU and the US are allies and the EU has negotiated a peace deal with Russia.â⬠The platforms for this game are same as Call for Action. (Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360) The second game is Call of Duty Black Ops II which was developed by Treyarch. According to Wikipedia, ââ¬Å"Black Ops II is the first game in the Call of Duty franchise to feature future warfare technology and the first to present branching storylines driven by player choice. It also offers a 3D display option. In this game the player campaign features two connected storylines, with the first set from 1986 to 1989 during the final years of the first Cold War, and the other set in 2025 during a second Cold War.â⬠The platforms for this game are PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows, and Wii. The third game is Blacklight which was developed by Zombie Studios. According to Wikipedia, ââ¬Å"Zombie is planning to make Blacklight a multimedia franchise that will include the video game, a feature film, and a trilogy of comic books. The idea was concepted by Zombie executives which later pitched the idea to several film and comic book production companies.â⬠The platforms for this game are Games for Windows ââ¬â Live, PlayStation Network, and Xbox Live Arcade. Based on the other three descriptions and Call for Action description, Call for Action has more options and futures. It may not be better than Call of Duty Black Ops II, but has the same quality and features. In this game, you can fly a plan, drive a car, or a tank. It will use the dual shock in order to give the real feelng to the player. It will attract players to finish the story by giving them prizes at the end. Therefore, it can be one the top competitions in the market. Goals The goal of this game is to give a player the time to enjoy, learn, and challenge themselves. In this game people can spend time and put themselves in a war situation. What needs to be done? How to control a gun? How to communicate with people in an emergency situation? Players can learn the name of all guns and get to know their specifications, how they are working and what they are good for. Also in an online game, people can compete with each other. Players can see their friendsââ¬â¢ progress and play with them, or players can invite their friends, gather a team, and fight with other people. In this case, people will communicate with each other and learn a lot about the game by asking or watching other people playing.

The literature review examined the impact of Electronic Health Records (EHRs) on the quality of health care provided by hospitals to patients by assessing the outcomes and processes of preventive care and analyzing productivity and efficiency of the hospital staffs in providing health care to patients. While some research studies showed that EHRs improved the quality of care provided by hospitals to the patients, other research studies showed that EHRs didnââ¬â¢t improve the quality of care provided by hospitals to the patients. The studies that argued that EHRs improved the quality of care indicated that promotion of excellent health care can be attained through fostering improvement of communication networks, which must go hand in hand with collaboration of information amongst workers, as well as raising answerability among healthcare employees. The studies argued that EHRs helped to ease the means by which patient information was recorded since they provided an electronic syste m that complied with the health care guidelines. The studies that argued EHRs did not improve the quality of care, on the other hand, claimed that EHRs brought up the issue of negligence in providing preventive care needs to patients and, thus, EHRs did not necessarily improve outcomes and processes of preventive care.
